Entries invited for NDA Supply Chain Awards 2013
Business entries are now being invited for the prestigious NDA Estate Supply Chain Awards 2013 which recognise outstanding contributions to the nuclear clean-up mission.
Launched last year, the awards are jointly sponsored by the NDA and its SLCs, with the aim of acknowledging the supply chain’s vital role in delivering progress across the estate and providing innovation in all its forms to add benefit and efficiencies to the programmes of work.
The award scheme was piloted last year as part of a series of measures to improve the visibility of opportunities for businesses in the supply chain, and attracted more than 40 entries from across the UK.
Three categories are available, covering innovation, collaboration and ‘going the extra mile’. The format for entries has been updated for 2013 to take account of feedback from entrants and the judging panel.
Dr Gary Sewell, developer of the remotely operated WallRover which won the SME Innovation category last year, said: “We were incredibly proud to win this award after putting many years work into developing and refining WallRover, and are pleased to see it now being deployed on decommissioning sites.“
Andrew Samuel of Mon Maintenance, who were Highly Commended in the ‘extra mile’ category last year, added with regard to the application process:
“I found the instructions to be concise and easily followed, and the form was plain and simple to complete with an open aspect, not putting words into our mouths with strategically chosen questions. This, I felt, gave the applicant scope to express in their own words where and how they had given benefit the NDA supply chain.”
The winners will be announced during the NDA Estate Supply Chain Event at EventCity, Manchester, on 13th November 2013, where the awards ceremony will be a key highlight of the day. An awards stand, meanwhile, will also showcase the winning entries and those shortlisted by the judges.
The deadline for submissions is 20th September 2013.
This year’s joint chair of judges are Ron Gorham, NDA head of Supply Chain Optimisation and SME Champion, and Magnox Supply Chain Development and Relationship Manager John Vieth, who will be supported by NDA Head of Research and Development Dr Melanie Brownridge, plus a selected panel of other senior supply chain and procurement professionals.
Both admission and exhibition space and to the NDA Estate Supply Chain Event are free of charge. Registration is via the website at www.decommsupplyevent.co.uk
