5,001 Up for West Cumbria Carers

LLWR again dug deep this year to raise £5,001 for chosen charity West Cumbria Carers.

Funds were raised from a string of ideas including a special company Bake Off, quizzes, cake sales and Christmas Jumper Day, and the company also provided match funding of £2,000.

West Cumbria Carers provide support for those who care for others, and the LLWR cash was used to fund a young carers trip to South Lakes Zoo, pay for six, monthly youth club sessions for the youngsters, and organise transport for adult carers to attend their Christmas Lunch.

This year marks the group’s 25th anniversary and as part of the celebrations West Cumbria Carers is hosting a number of events, including a free afternoon tea with transport for adult carers at Hundith Hall, Cockermouth, also to be funded by LLWR donations.

“It is our way of recognising all the effort and dedication that carers put into a typical day. It provides an opportunity for a couple of hours of relaxation and enjoy a pleasant afternoon of food and chat with fellow carers,” said Clare Edwards, Project and Funding Development Manager.

“West Cumbria Carers would like to say a big thank you for being LLWR’s charity of the year and we appreciate the fantastic support and donations raised this year.

“We are absolutely delighted with the support we have received from LLW Repository Ltd.”

Cath Giel, LLWR’s Head of Public Affairs, said: “We were delighted to again hit the £5,000 mark for this year’s chosen charity. We couldn’t do it without the fantastic support of our workforce, which is very much appreciated.

“The Carers kept us informed where the funds were being spent and it was great to see money channelled into such worthwhile areas, with both young and older carers benefitting.”
