Site Overview
  • The Low Level Waste (LLW) Repository provides safe, reliable, and cost-effective LLW management services on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) throughout the United Kingdom (UK).
  • LLW Repository Ltd. conducts LLW disposal and storage operations in highly-engineered concrete vaults (Vaults 8 and 9).
  • Through our Consignor Support organisation, comprehensive waste services are provided to the nuclear and non-nuclear industries:
    • Customer support for waste treatment, storage, and disposal services to consignor sites
    • Metallic waste recycling and treatment services
    • Compactable waste treatment services utilising the Waste Monitoring and Compaction (WAMAC) facility at Sellafield in West Cumbria
    • Combustible waste treatment and incineration services
    • Waste packaging and transportation services
  • Extensive work is underway for preparation and delivery of an Environmental Safety Case to assess future operations of the LLW Repository.
  • Ongoing decommissioning efforts are in process for legacy facilities with residual contamination from Plutonium Contaminated Materials (PCM).
  • As the "UK Integrator" for LLW management, LLW Repository Ltd. is playing a central role to the NDA for development and implementation of the UK Nuclear Industry LLW Strategy.
